Art Journaling - Creating Habits and Seeing Progress

I've officially spent the last year working mainly with watercolor and colored pencil. This feels like a big deal, because I always thought I was going to work with acrylics.

I feel like it's given me a lot more freedom. Instead of changing into my painting clothes and setting up my pallets, I have just been working on the floor or wherever it's easier. I have given up the notion of things needing to be perfect, and so I started to focus on expressing myself instead.

Much of my art making has turned into art-journaling.

Having that freedom to just express has helped me create when I feel like creating. For no reason at all other than to express myself. It's been fun to watch my progress over this last year as I've filled sketch book after sketchbook.

Uncovering Symbols and Stories Art Journaling | Tree Talker ARt

Last January is when I really started art journaling. I started the year off with a broken finger, and pretty bad depression.

I had no idea what Winter's depression really had for me in the coming months, but I'm thankful I taped my broken finger into the pencil-holding position and kept going.

I sometimes just scribble colors, words or symbols. Sometimes I hide my poetry or my thoughts behind the faces.

Sometimes I share my pages on Instagram, and sometimes I even list them for sale in my shop. Sometimes I keep them hidden all to myself.

I did list 8 new pieces today.

I feel like this is one of my most "emotional" batches that I've ever listed.. so it feels a little bit vulnerable to share them.

One of the most important parts of my day is sitting on my floor creating art in my art journals... so I'm very excited to announce that I've been asked to be a part of Pull - Pen - Paint!

Journaling with Tarot and Oracle Cards

This is a month long art journaling class using Tarot and Oracle cards. Doesn't that sound amazing?

I will be teaching and sharing a class called "Unearthing Stories and Symbols From the Soul."

We are going to get to combine tarot and oracle readings with art journaling, and I get to share part of my process!

I'm so excited that I get to combine my two passions. I hope you will join me in class!!

I will be back next week to give away two seats in the class, as well as some more details about the class I'll be teaching!

Have a Happy Lunar New Year!

p.s. did you know I do monthly lunar reports over at Spirit de la Lune?

I am an Artist, Mystic and Oracle. I have been creating since I was little, and am constantly working on something new in the studio. I also have a passion for illustration. I have illustrated a few children's books as well as some Tarot decks and Oracle decks. Aside from creating art, I am also a card reader. I specialize in Tarot and Crystal readings. I love all things mystic, and spiritual and I delight in the mixture of creation and intuition.

Time Lapse - Intuitive Mandala Process

Sometimes an intuitive painting is all I need to overcome some major creative blockages.

I was experiencing a serious creative block last weekend.. I planned on painting, but nothing was coming out right! So I decided to do an intuitive painting to clear out some creative blockages.

Instead of painting what I saw in my head, I chose to paint an intuitive mandala. I decided to try a time lapse video to help me get a handle on filming for my upcoming e-courses! I can't wait to share my process in my online classes!

I wasn't sure where this was going with this, but tried to keep the painting moving outward, to help move blockages out.

The colors started out really blue and cold, but as I kept working I was feeling more drawn to the oranges and yellows, which help stimulate the Sacral Chakra.

By the end of the painting I was reminded that the darker times, and the "blues" in life serve us very well. They act as a contrast for us to remember just how bright the sun can shine.

Then of course I added stars and galaxies into the darkest areas of the painting, and a "barely" there mandala to help guide the eyes and energy outward.

Painting a mandala can be extremely soothing and meditative, which in turn makes the mandala soothing to look at as well. This one was created with the intention of unblocking creative energy.

I'll be adding the original and prints to the shop this New Moon in my shop update. Along with tons of other originals and illustrations that I've been putting off... because once I got this painting out,  the creative juices have been flowing!
