I have been kind of nervous to write this post all year.. I haven't been too sure how to handle it all to be honest.
Ruby, our trailer collapsed under the snow earlier this winter and has been declared deceased. I don't think anything we do will be able to bring her back to life.
It happened around one of the first snow falls, it was like a physical representation of how 2016 went for me to be honest. Ruby fell shortly after Sterling moved out.
I don't think there was any way to avoid her falling in on herself. She got hit with several feet of snow in one night, and because a few of her beams were broken and the walls were taken out, she didn't stand a chance.
I had even planned on going out there and sweeping her off every time it snowed, but the snow fell too fast.
Pretty soon after she was flattened, she was covered in several more feet of snow. You couldn't even see her for the rest of the winter.
It was nice to get to avoid the grimacing image of her, as well as not have to think about the major clean up project this will be.
But then the snow began to melt, and we saw her peeking out of the snow more and more.. and we had to kind of face it.
But there is no use crying over spilt trailers.
Sterling and I talked more and more and realized we couldn't rebuild Ruby. We might be able to use some of her parts on a new trailer though. And she did come with a lot of odds and ends that we kept inside the house.
So Sterling and I started a new plan to build a new trailer.
We picked her up early in April after a few months of planning and saving up. And she is perfect.
Not perfect perfect, but perfect for what we need.
She is a mess on the inside, and we are about where we were with Ruby.. so it will be a project. I will be doing more posts and pictures about her shortly. She even has her own instagram! @Stella_The_Excella
I'm very sad that Ruby was smashed in the snow this winter, but I'm thankful that I'm going to continue to build something. It's been my dream since I was a child, so I'm not going to let the dream die.
More photos and updates coming soon!
Because my lease is up this Fall, and I'm out of here!
